Working Principle:
Fixed inductors, such as the ER1641-684KM are composed of two parts: a wire coil and a ferrite core (or bobbin material used as the substrate). The coil winding is formed from the wire which is insulated with enamel or a plastic insulation material.
When a current passes through the wire, it creates a magnetic field that induces energy into the core. That energy is stored in the form of a magnetic field which is theoretically capable of producing an electric field if discharged. As the current in the coil wire increases, so too does the magnetic field, inducing additional energy into the core, and increasing the inductance. This process is known as “electro-magnetism.”
In addition, due to the characteristics of inductors, the energy stored in the form of the magnetised field, is proportional to the square of the current. This is referred to as the “inductive reactance”, which is the amount of energy necessary to maintain the same level of current; higher inductance requires more energy.
This characteristic of the ER1641-684KM fixed inductor also has the property of helping to create a constant voltage in the circuit. This is because the energy stored in the form of the magnetic field is constantly changing with the current.
