The ERZ-E08B751CS Varistor is a metal-oxide varistor (MOV) which works on the principle of voltage dependent resistance. This means that the resistance of the varistor decreases with increase in voltage, when the varistor is exposed to a voltage that is higher than its rated voltage it quickly reduces its resistance to almost zero and becomes practically a short-circuit - the current is discharged and the source voltage is clamped. This reduces the transient voltage to a safe level before it enters the circuit.

The Varistor works with high efficiency and with very little delay (sub-nanosecond) and has a wide range of operational temperature and can withstand both AC and DC transients. The Varistor also has a low thermal resistance for reliable performance and a very low clamping voltage of 8V (8/20us, 10/1000us) making it very efficient for high peak current applications. It also exhibits very low leakage current when tested under maximum voltage conditions, thus resulting in low self-heating and providing enhanced protection to the circuit.

The Varistor is encapsulated with an epoxy resin and thus is highly durable and resistant to temperature, shock and vibration, thus making it a suitable choice for many harsh environment applications. It also features a wide working frequency range of 6.5MHz-70MHz, making it suitable for a range of radiofrequency applications. The mechanical size and lead length of the Varistor is in accordance with the lead-free requirements making it RoHS compliant.
