ERZ-E08E681 is a TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) and is part of the ever-growing family of MOVs (Metal Oxide Varistors). They provide a high level of protection for electronic devices and circuitry which are subject to transient voltage spikes. As its name implies, the ERZ-E08E681 is primarily designed for protection against ESD (Electro Static Discharge) events. It can also provide protection against overvoltage (surge) and increases of supply/transmission/generator voltage.The ERZ-E08E681 is a bi-directional TVS, with an integrated diode for ESD protection. Its main application is in Power Management, Communication Systems, Consumer Electronics and Industrial Control applications. It is designed to protect up to 8KV of ESD. The maximum clamping voltage of the device is specified at 12.5V with a breakover voltage of 10.3V. It provides a very low dynamic resistance of 0.01 ohms, which ensures a very low clamping voltage, reducing the voltage stress on the protected components. Its operating temperature range is -40 to +85°C.The ERZ-E08E681 utilizes a MOV (Metal Oxide Varistor) technology, which is installed in two layers. The topmost layer consists of a metal oxide ceramic which uses ZnO (zinc oxide) and NiO (nickel oxide) as its main ingredients. The bottom layer is made of an insulation substrate. The combination of these two layers ensures a low leakage current and a high surge capability.When the voltage spike occurs, the ERZ-E08E681 will act as a voltage limiting device. The integrated diode will have a negative going voltage with a reverse breakdown voltage of 5 volts. This ensures that the voltage on the MOV layer remains below two volts and will not cause any damage to the components it is protecting. As the voltage spike passes, the diode will turn off and the MOV will start to return to its normal state. This entire process ensures that the protected components do not suffer impact from the voltage spike. The application of the ERZ-E08E681 device also includes over-voltage protection. This is achieved by having the device act like a voltage divider. When the voltage reaches the point of the breakdown voltage, the device will start to conduct. This will result in the high voltage being diverted to ground which will then be limited to a safe level, ensuring no damage is incurred to the protected components. The ERZ-E08E681 is an extremely reliable device with a variety of applications. It is designed for a wide range of operating temperatures and is capable of protecting against high transient voltage spikes. It also provides over-voltage protection levels, ensuring that the protected components are kept safe and free from damage.
