Working principle
Ers-E10E201, like all other Varistors MOVs, is a voltage-variable resistance with a breakdown voltage that cannot be specified precisely. It appears as non-linear electric resistance in the circuit, working in two different type: voltage protection mode and impedance protection mode.
When the polarization current Ip is applied, it will become high-resistance state, equivalent to an open circuit. But in a short period, it can undergo conduction when the applied surge voltage exceed the breakdown voltage. That is to say, during the occurrence of surge voltage, it will begin to conduct and it is effortless for a surge voltage with 1/4 of the conduction voltage. The surge voltage should be close to zero after it going through the effect of varistor.
During the breakdown voltage increases, its conduct possesses equal sign and resonance, equal sign appears when the varistor is of inductance effect, while resonance forms when dynamic electric capacitance is present. Varistor MOV is normally designed with low inductance and high capacitance to reduce the effective capacitance of the protection circuit. It also simplifies the circuit design.
