Once the applied voltage is equal to or exceeding the breakdown voltage, the varistor will turn ON and begin to conduct current.When the overvoltage condition occurs, the varistor will clamp the voltage to the rated clamp voltage. As the applied voltage increases, the current increases exponentially through the varistor until the maximum current rating is reached, at which point the varistor will trip and will no longer allow significant current to pass through it.In addition to protecting sensitive electrical components, the ERZ-E11A681 Varistor can also decrease power dissipation by utilizing its low impedance during peak surge events.
