ERZ-V05D271 is an aluminum oxide-zinc oxide composite varistor that can be used in multiple applications where transient voltage suppressor (TVS) protection is required. The ERZ-V05D271 provides a very high level of surge current capability while also providing a low capacitance, reducing its insertion loss in critical applications. This TVS is suitable for a wide range of applications including DC power line, DC/DC converters, automotive and other battery operated devices, DSL, ethernet and other telecommunications systems, consumer electronics, and other medical equipment.
The ERZ-V05D271 consists of a zinc-oxide/aluminum-oxide mixture sandwiched between two conductive layers. This combination provides a unique physical integration of an extremely high surge current capability and very low capacitance needed to effectively absorb and dissipate transient energy without damage to the circuit components. When a surge of voltage appears across the varistor, the junction within the mixture of zinc-oxide/aluminum-oxide combination breaks down and allows current to flow, while dissipating the energy.
The ERZ-V05D271 has a high surge current rating of 200 Amps, meaning it can safely absorb the energy of a large transient spike without any damage. This rating is ten times greater than the traditional transient protection devices available on the market. Additionally, its low capacitance value of 0.1 pF ensures minimal attenuation is experienced across the device.
The varistor also offers an operating voltage of -0.5V to +271V.
