ERZ-VF2M151 Application Field and Working Principle

Metal oxide varistor (MOV) is a kind of voltage-dependent resistor (VDR) that consists of sintered surface-mounted components which work by shunting excess current to ground when a specific voltage is reached. This phenomenon is known as "clamping". The ERZ-VF2M151 is a state-of-the-art, shunt-type, voltage-dependent, nonlinear, two-layer, metallic oxide varistor.

MOVs consist of sintered elements that can withstood high voltages and are typically used in applications such as surge protectors, which protect electrical circuits from high voltage spikes. High voltage spikes can occur from lightning, among other sources, and can cause significant damage to electrical equipment if left unprotected. When the voltage returns to its normal level, the varistor goes back to its high impedance state and blocks the current again.
