TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressors) - Varistors, MOVs (Metal Oxide Varistors) are among the types of overvoltage protectors used in power electronics to basically provide protection against overvoltage transients. The ERZ-VF2M270 is a varistor device specifically used to protect an entire power system against overvoltage surges, which are usually produced from lightning or other kinds of power interruptions. It is a two-pole overvoltage protection device which consists of two longitudinal metal oxide varistors arranged in series connection. The varistor provides protection by “clamping” the voltage by virtue of its “avalanche” conduction characteristic when an overvoltage surge occurs.
The ERZ-VF2M270 has a working nominal voltage of 270V and a nominal discharge current ranging from 10kA to 40kA. Its peak current can also range from 200kA to 400kA. The device is suitable for applications with high peak currents and offers protection against double-surge transients. It can be used for telecommunications systems, industrial systems, and various other downstream power supply control systems.
The working principles of the ERZ-VF2M270 are based on a simple yet effective process. When an overvoltage surge or transient occurs, the device will activate to allow the current to flow as allowed by its series connection. This induces a voltage drop across the device as the current flows through the varistors, which clamps the voltage to a safe level. This safe level is then maintained until the transient or the overvoltage surge has been dissipated or dissipates, at which point the device will deactivate and the system voltage returned to its nominal operating level.
To be able to survive the harsh environment of application and provide effective protection, the ERZ-VF2M270 should be mounted in an appropriate location or orientation to ensure the best protection results. The device also has low capacitance to minimize the emergence of new surge transients, such as dv/dt effects. It also has a temperature-stable response to further ensure reliable operation. Because of its effective working principles and robust design, the ERZ-VF2M270 can provide efficient overload protection to all types of power systems with the highest levels of safety and reliability.
