TVS - Varistors, MOVs refer to a group of electrical components which can act as a voltage-dependent resistor to provide surge protection when excessive voltage is applied. The ERZ-VF2T101 belongs to this group and is low capacitance ESDFET Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS), designed to protect high-speed data lines from over-voltage transients. This device helps protect sensitive electronic equipment from voltage spikes caused by electrostatic discharge (ESD), electrical fast transients (EFT), and other power related problems.

The ERZ-VF2T101 is designed for low capacitance coupling and offers superior protection to RS-422, RS-485, high speed data lines such as S-VHS, SCSI, HDMI, Firewire and Ethernet applications. The ERZ-VF2T101 features a stepped conductance, fast response time, low clamping voltage, low leakage current and low on-state resistance characteristics. This device is made in lead-free version and is RoHS compliant. The package used is SMD SOT23, Pb-free and halogen free. There is also an optional temperature rating available with extended temperature range up to +175°C. The typical capacitance at 25°C is 1.5pF.

The working principles of the ERZ-VF2T101 can be broken down into three main operations. The first step is the junction protection which refers to the protection of the junction, such as the internal gate or gate-source junction, from excessive voltage or current. This is accomplished by the integrated FET structure which limits the current to an acceptable level. The second step is the transient displacement which refers to the ability of the device to absorb high-energy transients and protects the sensitive devices which are connected to the line. This is achieved through the combination of the ESD clamping feature of the MOV and the forward conduction feature of the FET.
