The EVB-EN5312QI is a popular and well-integrated evaluation board designed to provide a maximum solution for isolation and DC/DC or AC/DC (off-line) SMPS applications. The board contains an embedded microprocessor in the form of a DSP EN5312, allowing for the time-dependent control of the system, allowing it to monitor and adjust for load changes, input/output voltage, and the operating frequency of the system.

The evaluation board uses TI’s power management integrated circuits (PMICs) to help integrate various power stages and protection elements into a single solution. This enables the EVB-EN5312QI to provide a comprehensive and integrated power solution that includes reverse current protection, over-voltage and under-voltage protection, and over-temperature protection. The engine of the evaluation board is the high-performance DSP EN5312, which controls various system parameters, such as voltage/current, temperature, and frequency.

The EVB-EN5312QI can be used for both DC/DC and AC/DC (off-line) SMPS applications. For a DC/DC application, the EVB-EN5312QI is used to convert a direct current (DC) input, such as a battery, into a regulated DC output. This is done by regulating the input current, thereby maintaining a stable output voltage under varying load conditions. For an AC/DC (off-line) application, the EVB-EN5312QI helps to convert an alternating current (AC) input into a regulated DC output. This is accomplished by regulating the input current without the need for an external transformer or rectifier. In both cases, the EVB-EN5312QI utilizes a digital phase-shifted full-bridge control circuit to regulate the input current.

In addition to DC/DC and AC/DC (off-line) applications, the EVB-EN5312QI can also be used for other power management applications, such as active harmonic filter (AHF), power factor correction (PFC), and emergency lighting. The board supports a wide variety of operating conditions, including wide/narrow-band distributed power, variable switching frequency, non-synchronous buck/boost, three-phase bridge, full/half-bridge, and bidirectional topologies.
