EVB-EP53F8QI is an evaluation board designed for EP53F8QI chipset, which is a full integrated off-line Fly-Buck controller IC. The chip integrates a three-stage PFC, integrated DC/DC controller, valley switch, advanced digital power processor, a high-voltage gate drive sense FET, and system and slope compensation together. It provides an optimum multi-phase current-mode PFC and PWM control for universal input power supply and AC/DC low-power application up to 265W.

EVB-EP53F8QI is categorized as evaluation boards for DC/DC & AC/DC (off-line) SMPS. It is designed to provide users with efficient and economical solutions for prototyping or verifying their designs. The board is equipped with all necessary components, including passive components and small signal MOSFETs, for operating before being optimized. The working principle of EVB-EP53F8QI mainly involves the Fly-back transformer. The Fly-back transformer is made up of a primary and a secondary winding, and the primary side is connected parallel to the input rectifier circuit. When the input voltage source is turned on, the power supply charges a storage capacitor, and the electric current passes the primary winding of the transformer. As the current passes through the primary, a magnetic field is generated, and this field induces a voltage in the secondary winding. The induced voltage in the secondary winding is inverted in polarity as compared to the input voltage, thus creating a positive feedback.

The secondary winding voltage is rectified to provide a DC output voltage. Due to the Fly-back operation, the output voltage is always higher than the input voltage and is proportional to the number of turns of the secondary winding, the primary current and input voltage. EP53F8QI contains a total of three power ports that can be used for Fly-back operation, and each Fly-back port has an adjustable duty cycle which determines the output power delivered to the load. Each of the three Fly-back ports can be set independently and can provide an output power up to 265W.

EVB-EP53F8QI is an versatile evaluation board designed for users to evaluate the features of EP53F8QI chipset, mainly its multi-phase PFC and PWM control for universal input power supply and AC/DC low-power applications.
