EVB_RT2613AGQW is an evaluation board designed by Richtek Technology Corp.. This board is classified under Evaluation Boards - DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS category. The EVB_RT2613AGQW board consists of the following parts: MOSFET Q1 and associated drive components, RT2613AGQW IC, inductor L1, capacitor C1, external power supply connector P1 and other passive components.

The EVB_RT2613AGQW board mainly focuses on the off-line switching power supply area. RT2613AGQW IC is a single chip, high performance active PFC flyback controller designed for lighting applications. It combines the PFC control and the flyback control inside one chip. The input of RT2613AGQW can be directly connected to an AC mains, or it can accept the rectified voltage from the bridge rectifier with an input voltage from approximately 85VAC up to 265VAC. With the high coverage of input voltage, RT2613AGQW is able to operating normally even during different AC mains conditions.

The operating principle of EVB_RT2613AGQW is relatively simple. To summary, it mainly consists of the power supply, switching section, current regulation loop, PFC regulator and soft-start. The power supply provides the bias voltage to the IC. The RT2613AGQW IC senses the input voltage which is rectified from AC mains with rectifying switch MOSFET Q1. After the MOSFET Q1 turns on, the inductor L1 begins to store energy. When the MOSFET Q1 turns off, the energy stored by the inductor L1 is released to output, with capacitor C1 assisting to filter the output voltage. PFC regulator will always adjust the peak current to make sure the peak current remains constant even under various AC mains input. The IC will also include over-current, over-voltage and over-temperature protection. In addition, a soft-start control circuit is included in the flyback converter. The soft-start ensures the over-load protection is activated when the continuous load current exceeds the preset value.

With wide input voltage coverage, low cost and high performance, the EVB_RT2613AGQW application field highly suitable for off-line applications such as portable lighting, charging accessories and other appliance. It is also used extensively in commercial lighting applications due to its high efficiency, low noise and power saving features.
