EVB_RT5795AGQW is an evaluation board for DC/DC and AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS (Switch Mode Power Supplies) devices. It is developed as a test platform for the RT5795AGQW bidirectional DC/DC converter, a single-stage, wide input (4.5V to 70V) DC/DC converter of up to 3A, 800kHz switching current mode. The board supports both flyback and buck configurations.
This evaluation board has been designed for both input and output voltage programmability, allowing users to self select different input and output voltages in order to test and evaluate the performance of the desired product. It is powered by a DC source and it has full control circuit including isolation, current limit and protection against short circuit, overload, undervoltage and overvoltage. It also supports two different start-up waveforms, namely voltage ramping start-up and voltage-clamping start-up. This board also provides the possibility of input monitoring, output current monitoring, and output voltage monitoring.
The primary components of an SMPS are the switches, the output filter, the control circuit, and the power transformer. In the case of the RT5795AGQW, the switch part is provided by the FSFR5795AGQW, and the output filter is a low-pass RC filter composed of resistor and capacitor. The input and output voltage adjustment is done by the control circuit, which is composed of the circuit protection elements, the current limit circuit, and the startup circuit. The input and output voltage can be adjusted by changing the duty cycle of the PWM signal sent from the control circuit to the switches.
The working principle of the RT5795AGQW is based on the current mode operation. The output voltage is determined by the average of the input voltage and the Duty Cycle (D) of the switching signal sent to the switches. The current mode operation of the RT5795AGQW means that the average input voltage VIN and the output voltage Vout will be controlled and regulated by the PWM pulses applied to the switches.
The board also comes with a LED display to show the output voltage and current, and a terminal block to monitor the input voltage. The board comes with a datasheet and the source code of the microcontroller used in the evaluation board. The code includes instructions for calibrating the output voltage and current measurement and setup of the protection functions.
EVB_RT5795AGQW evaluation board provides a great platform for testing and evaluating the performance of RT5795AGQW bidirectional DC/DC converter. It is an ideal development tool for DC/DC SMPS designers.
