EVB-RT7238BGQUF is one of the most commonly used evaluation boards for DC/DC & AC/DC (off-line) switching mode power supplies (SMPS) in the industry. It is widely used across a large variety of applications such as automotive, industrial, medical, telecommunication and consumer electronics.

The main purpose of the EVB-RT7238BGQUF evaluation board is to enable designers to evaluate the performance and technical features of the RT7238BGQUF controller IC. This IC is specially designed for off-line SMPS which are used to convert AC voltage input into a lower DC voltage output. It enables up to 4 stages of buck, boost, buck-boost, flyback or forward converters to be used in the design. The evaluation board contains components approved to the AEC-Q100 standard and UL approvals, making it ideal for automotive applications.

EVB-RT7238BGQUF also provides mapping of several key parameters such as overvoltage protection, burst mode operation, automatic loop control, Eco mode control and frequency modulation, allowing designers to tailor their design for the desired application scenario.

The board operates in the frequency range of 50 Hz up to 1 MHz and the input AC voltage range is from 100 up to 250 VAC. It also enables multiple load configurations, like different secondary or motherboard loads including USB, isolated or non-isolated outputs. The worst case evaluation is achieved by providing wide parameter search space to test the design.

The design is electrically robust and features built-in EMI reduction techniques. In addition, the board has digital isolator line on several control pins for added robustness in noisy environments. The board also supports multiple protection features such as overvoltage protection, overcurrent protection and overtemperature protection.

The board also features remote operational diagnosis and can detect and pinpoint faults such as open loop, overcurrent or overvoltage conditions. The evaluation board has been tested for ESD and EMI complicance, allowing the design to pass the test without the need for additional external components.
