The EVB_RT7304GE_03 is an evaluation board for LED drivers developed by Richtek Technology Corporation, a Taiwan-based semiconductor company. The integrated on-board LEDs and onboard PWM signal generator enable the user to rapidly set up and evaluate the IC.
The EVB_RT7304GE_03 evaluation board is designed to be used in a variety of applications, including general-purpose DC/DC converters, boost regulators, buck regulators, AC/DC adapters and high-power LED lighting. The board allows the user to quickly evaluate the performance of the RT7304GE device for lighting applications, such as residential and commercial building lighting, automotive lighting, and billboard backlighting. The evaluation board can also be used as a development platform for automotive, industrial and appliance DC/DC converters, as well as for the evaluation of the device’s surge protection and monitored current requirements.
The principles of operation of the RT7304GE are based on a synchronous, current-mode control switching with a single power stage. The switching frequency can be programmed up to 1MHz, allowing increased efficiency at high load levels. The device operates in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM), keeping the input ripple current low while enabling high efficiency. The current through the inductor is sensed by an internal current sense amplifier, which determines the duty-cycle of the power switch. The duty-cycle is then regulated to the desired output current, providing a constant-current output.
The integrated active-balancing circuitry in the IC allows the current sharing among the multiple channels. This eliminates the need for an external current-balance circuit, reducing the number of components and improving the efficiency of the converter.The device also provides a number of protection features, such as integrated short-LED and open-LED protection, as well as loss of signal (LOS) protection.
