The EVB-USB3320 evaluation board is a versatile yet compact solution from FTDI Chip that adds multiple ports of USB2.0 Hi-Speed connectivity to any system. Created and designed to integrate easily into any embedded design environment, the EVB-USB3320 modules are ideal for different application fields, ranging from industrial automation to consumer applications such as external storage devices, networking, home automation, etc. It miniatures developmental work through the simple integration of the module’s USB transceiver, as well as the ease of exposing numerous on-board peripherals.
The EVB-USB3320 uses USB2.0 Hi-Speed, which is a backward compatible technology. This allows the EVB-USB3320 to be versatile as it works with both older USB ports as well as those developed for USB2.0, while still delivering great performance. With this board, both requirements for USB performance and interoperability are met. The board also supports USB Multi-Configuration, which allows configuring additional ports during run-time, for utmost flexibility.
The EVB-USB3320 is built with FTDI’s USB3320 chip, which is an enhanced version of the USB3300. The chip provides seven additional ports of higher quality IO, resulting in improved system performance. The wider ports enable more buses to be routed inside the algorithm so that different buses can access the same peripherals. Moreover, 10 ports are connected via I²C to access the on-board peripherals such as an analog-to-digital converter, a temperature sensor, etc. When interconnected with FTDI Chip USB2.0-to-serial bridge chips, it provides three ports of USB2.0 while the other 4 ports connect to single-ended, software selectable I/O. This configuration provides access to ten general purpose I/Os via I²C and one additional port for access to flash memory.
The EVB-USB3320 also includes on-board debug and programming support, including an FTDI Chip FT2232. This chip allows in-system programming and debugging of the algorithms that it is used with. This in-system programming feature is supported by another feature called self-test mode, which allows for automated testing of the board, making it a great tool for product development and deployment.
The EVB-USB3320 also supports one of the reason for its widespread adoption, which is the power backup solution. It features an on-board linear regulator that provides current up to 800mA on all seven USB ports, allowing the device to remain in a powered state in the event of a power failure. This power backup feature helps to protect any data stored on the board, making it the perfect solution for most applications.
The EVB-USB3320 module is designed to provide the ideal solution for system developers who wish to migrate their developments to a next-generation application field.
