The TVS-Varistors, MOVs, series is a line of transient voltage surge suppressors that provide surge protection in mobile phone designs and other electronic systems. The series includes three models, EZJ-P0V270GM, EZJ-P0V490GM and EZJ-P0V1000GM. The EZJ-P0V270GM is the entry level model and it delivers the best price performance ratio.

The EZJ-P0V270GM is composed of two parts: a metal oxide varistor and a junction diode, which connect together to form a symmetrical two-stage breakdown voltage limiter. The MOV is a special passive component, whose electrical resistance changes dramatically with the application of voltage. During normal operation, the MOV has a very high resistance (approximately the same as an open circuit) and does not affect the circuit. When a voltage of sufficient magnitude is applied to the MOV, its resistance changes rapidly and significantly. This is known as the “breakdown” voltage range and the MOV acts like an open circuit in series with a diode.
The diode serves to protect against large spike currents. At the extremes of the breakdown voltage range, the MOV is designed to collapse or open up, allowing all the excess energy to pass through the diode, to ground. This limits the associated voltage to a tolerable level without tripping a breaker and allows the device to recover much quicker than it would have with a single-stage device.
The EZJ-P0V270GM is engineered to provide stable response to transients throughout most of its surge range. It is capable of controlling surge magnitudes that are greater than its rated voltage and also responds to shorter transients allowing it to be used in fast-responding applications.
