Film Capacitors
Film capacitors are types of capacitors, which use thin film as the dielectric material.Capacitors of this type generally have better electrical stability, lower leakage current, lower dielectric absorption characteristics, and a wider temperature range than other types of capacitors. The F1778322M2DLB0 series capacitor is a single-phase ceramic-film AC capacitor, mainly used for starting and running motors for refrigeration, air conditioning, compressors and other applications.It is suitable for power systems with a voltage of up to 660V AC 50/60Hz, and it offers a maximum insulation frequency of 60HZ and a maximum power frequency of 3KHZ. Furthermore, it has high dielectric strength, low loss, and a maximum power factor of more than 0.9.
Working Principles
Film capacitors use the thin film as the dielectric, and the film itself is a synthetic film, which is composed of a polyester or a materiel, such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET). These materials are typically in the form of sheets or foils, which are rolled onto a spool and then wound into a cylindrical shape. The winding is then placed into a cylindrical casing and the capacitor is completed through an epoxy or plastic sealing process.
Regarding films, there are three main levels, and these levels can be distinguished according to the thickness of the film (thinner film capacitors last for a longer time, and experience less leakage, but are more expensive). Moreover, films usually have a silver-palladium-platinum (SPP) surface, which further resolves the issue of leakage current.
During an electrical discharge, the electrical charge is conducted by conduction electrons along the surface of the films. The dielectric portion of the film does not carry any electrical charge, and thus there is no loss of energy to it during an electrical process.The capacitor also contains an insulating foil, which is used to separate the positive and negative terminals, and prevent any electrical discharge between them.
Film capacitors are considered a high-performance device, and they typically feature low ESR values, low leakage current, and no audible noise. In addition, when compared to ceramic capacitors, they also have better moisture resistance, vibration resistance, overcurrent power dissipation characteristics, and insulation performance.
