Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) filters consists of interconnected electrodes deposited or etched on a piezoelectric material. Though this material is generally crystalline in structure, a number of non-crystalline materials have also been employed in SAW devices. When a suitable electrical signal is applied to the electrodes on the piezoelectric material, acoustic waves propagate along the surface of the material. These acoustic waves, just like any other type of wave, can be refracted, scattered, absorbed and transmitted.
