Working Principle

The FLNR03.5T fuse operates by means of a thermal fuse, which is hermetically sealed in a stainless steel shell with a silco-ceramic support structure. The thermal fuse has two conducting elements, which are connected (in series with the electrical load) and which can be triggered from the steady state thermal condition to a low resistance condition once the temperature of the thermal fuse reaches a certain set point.

When the electric current gets above the recommended ampacity, the heat generated by the current will be transferred to the thermal fuse. The thermal fuse is designed to have a certain nominal resistance which is determined by the specific fuse who manufactured it. At a certain predetermined temperature this resistance will drastically decrease and in turn, the electric current will increase.

This sudden increase in current will cause the electric arc between the fuse elements to be extinguished and the fuse to trip. Once the fault is cleared and the current stops, the temperature of the thermal fuse will naturally decrease and it will reset itself.
