Optics - Light Pipes can be used to transmit signals over long distances, often in harsh environments. The FLX_12 application field and working principle are based on the light pipe technology.

The FLX_12\'s design involves a fork of two fiber optic light pipes in a hermetically sealed enclosure. The sealed ports are designed to prevent dust, moisture, or other contaminants from entering the light pipes and degrading the signal. Inside, each light pipe includes two cores and a cladding layer, with the two cores at the opposite end of the tube separated by a silicon dioxide (SiO2) core.

The core of each light pipe is composed of a wave guide, which was engineered to reduce total mode dispersion (TMD), ensuring signals can travel faster than through copper wire analogues. Reducing TMD also increases transmission accuracy, by reducing signal distortion.

When power is applied to the wave guide’s input, it excites the electrons and they begin to oscillate. This allows the signal to travel up and down the light pipe’s core and creates a waveguide optical soliton. This specific type of wave carries digital light signals through the length of the light pipe, without dissipating over long distances.

The cladding surrounding the core of each light pipe is designed to enable Total Internal Reflection (TIR). It does this by providing the optical signal with a reflective surface, trapping the signal inside the core and greatly increasing the efficiency of the transmission. The trapped signal can continue to travel up and down the tube, while optical solitons reflect off the cladding surface. The signal eventually reaches the end of the light pipe, and can then enter the second core.

The signal is then kept confined in the second core and is transmitted further down the light pipe to the next element in the system. The signal is eventually converted back to analog and is received by the end user. FLX_12 then provides a large amount of bandwidth, ensuring the highest performance possible for the user.

In conclusion, the FLX_12 application field and working principle are based on the principles of using fiber optic light pipes to transport digital signals over long distances. The tubes are engineered to reduce total mode dispersion and trap the optical signals, using TIR, effectively eliminating signal degradation over a long period of time.
The specific data is subject to PDF, and the above content is for reference
