FNM-40, also known as FNM Medium-Voltage Fuses, are components with the capability to provide short-circuit protection for a wide range of applications. This type of fuse is mainly equipped to systems that run on power circuits up to 3,000V, with the option to deliver standard nominal currents up to 5,000A or 20,000A.

The applications of FNM-40 include large industrial and commercial installations, utilities, and motor/transformer systems, among others. For instance, its widely used on distribution and power transformers, motors, cables, bus ducts, and rectifier systems. The FNM-40 fuse also provides protection for branch circuits, switchboards, instrumentation, capacitors, and distribution devices.

The FNM-40 fuses work on the principle of thermal-magnetic coordination. This means that the fuses can provide time-delay protection by sensing the heat generated in an overcurrent situation, and subsequently disrupting the current by deploying the fuse filament.
