FNQ-1/2 Fuses are a type of specialty fuses used to protect motors, wiring, and other electrical devices from being over-cranked by excess voltage or tripped by shorts. FNQ-1/2 fuses are designed for branch circuit applications. These specific fuses provide optimal and sufficient protection from both overload and short-circuit currents to help protect motors, wiring, and other electrical devices against electrical surges and overloads.
Using a FNQ-1/2 fuse allows a motor, wiring, or other device to be protected from over-crankage. This is done by the fuse possessing two elements that respond differently to levels of current. These two elements are: the melting element, which is a strip of metal that melts instantly when the current exceeds a certain level, and the timing element, which is either a coil or a plated steel wire. The timing element is designed to delay the trip time until after the overload current has passed.
FNQ-1/2 fuses are sized according to the current passing through and the voltage present at the circuit. The fuse rating must have the ability to carry the maximum current expected to the fuse station. This is called its current rating or fuse amperage rating. The voltage rating should match or exceed the operating voltage of the circuit involved in order for the fuse to properly protect against overloads and shorts. The statutory rating differs according to the regulations of a particular country.
When a fault or overload current flows through a FNQ-1/2 fuse, the timing element begins to heat while the melting element of the fuse is instantaneously heated up and melted. This triggers the fuse to open and disconnect the circuit quickly. The two elements of the fuse cooperate to provide the optimal and most effective response to any type of problem. The melting element triggers the circuit interruption immediately while the timing element postpones the operation until it has been established that the circuit is under overload.
The FNQ-1/2 fuse is composed of a brass base composed of top and bottom layers, which contain the required amount of wire. A silicon rubber sealant is also used to hold the wire in place. That way, the fuse is well-protected against environmental effects, such as vibration, heat, and moisture.
FNQ-1/2 Fuses are often installed in refrigerators, air conditioners, and other electrically powered appliances. The two elements in the FNQ-1/2 fuse work together to provide maximum safety and reliability. The melting element reacts to instant over-cranking and the timing element delays the trip time until the overload current has passed. By doing this, the fuse protects the motor, wiring, and other electrical devices from overloads and shorts.
