FNQ-30 application field and working principle

FNQ-30 series fuses are electrical specialty fuses that are designed to protect home appliances and commercial/industrial equipment from damage caused by short circuits, over-current and overload current. It is commonly used for supplying power in motor overload and short-circuit protection, particularly in transformers, capacitor banks, switchgears, and other power systems. It is rated for 600 volts by UL, CSA, TUV, and CE standards. It has a current rating of up to 30 Amp and an interrupt rating of 25 kA. It features a time-delay action that allows the fuse to hold more current over time.

Working Principle

FNQ-30 is a thermal-magnetic type fuse which activates over temperature filled with a ceramic body. When a fault current passes through the fuse, the fuse heats up and its metal filament melts. When the metal filament melts, the current is interrupted and the power to the component is disconnected. The time taken for the metal filament to melt depends on how much current is flowing. If the current is higher, then the filament will melt sooner and the power will be disconnected faster. On the other hand, if the current is lower, then the filament will take longer to melt, giving the component more time to cool down.

Applications of FNQ-30

FNQ-30 series fuses are suitable for a wide range of applications, including the protection of motors, transformers, capacitor banks, switchgears, and other power systems. It is particularly suitable for providing circuit protection for medium-sized motors or other appliances that require protection from short circuits, over-current and overload current. It is also suitable for use in power circuits and remote switch control applications.

In addition to providing overload and short-circuit protection, the FNQ-30 series fuse can also be used as a disconnect device. When the fuse trips, the circuit is disconnected, thus preventing any further damage. It also helps in preventing hazardous conditions due to the accidental restarting of overloaded systems.
