FWP-175A are high-performance, special purpose fuses designed to provide superior protection of installations, networks, and equipment. The FWP-175A is a time-delay fuse which combines both physical and electrical protection into one product by increasing its response time so that the fuse opens where a standard fuse would have shorted out. The FWP-175A is certified to UL-listed standards and has a fusing current of 175A per pole at a maximum operating voltage of 600 volts AC or 250V DC. It also passes the UL 60950-1 high temperature test and is suitable for applications with up to 500V surge withstandability.
The FWP-175A is a two-part product with a cartridge housing and a replaceable fuse element. The fuse element consists of a metal wire wound around a ceramic insulating tube, which is coated with a high temperature metal oxide varistor (MOV). The outer shell of the fuse is made from high impact, heat resistant and flame-retardant polyester, which helps prevent sparks and flame propagation in the event of an overload.
The FWP-175A fuse operates according to the inverse-time law of current interruption, meaning that the speed at which it will open a circuit is inversely proportional to the magnitude of the overcurrent. The fuse has a time-delay which increases in proportion to the severity of the overcurrent, the longer it takes for the fuse to open the greater the current it can safely manage. When an excessive overload or short-circuit current is present, the MOV coating of the fuse element is heated. This thermal energy causes the fuse element to melt, resulting in an interruption of the current.
