The first housing contains the sensing element which includes a series of three single-axis hybrid rate gyroscopes connected in a specific geometry to measure pitch, roll and vibration in three orthogonal directions. This cosine delta type alignment eliminates the introduction of any cross-axis gimbal lock.
The second housing comprises the wire drive circuit, which is responsible for the angular rate and actual angle parameters as well as digital noise reduction circuitry. The differential signal between the gyroscopes is sampled at the wire drive circuit and amplified. Finally, the signal is routed to a 24-bit sigma-delta converter, which converts it to a digital signal for further data manipulation and processing.
