Diodes – Bridge Rectifiers are used to convert alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC). The GBPC2502T is a bridge rectifier designed for the most critical commercial and industrial applications. It features a maximum forward surge current of 50A, reverse voltage of 200V, and a forwarding current of 25A.

Application Field

The GBPC2502T is widely used to convert AC power to DC power in commercial and industrial environments. Typical applications include heaters, electric motors and pumps, rectifier bridges, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), electric generators, and in power supplies like chargers, adaptors, etc.

Working Principles

The GBPC2502T bridge rectifier is constructed with four discrete silicon diodes connected in a full-wave rectifier configuration (Figure 1). When an AC source is applied to the input terminals, the current alternates from one side to the other. This alternating current is converted to DC as the diodes only pass current in one direction.

In Figure 1, each of the four diodes has a forward voltage drop of about 0.7V at 25A. If we assume that the input voltage is 220V and the output voltage is 170V, the rectifier efficiency is the ratio of the output power to the input power:

Rectifier Efficiency = (170V x 25A) / (220V x 25A) = 0.773

The efficiency of the GBPC2502T depends on the various combinations of voltage and current. The higher the voltage and current, the higher the efficiency of the rectifier.
