A GDA-4A™ fuse is an ideal electrical protection choice for the application of industrial and commercial electrical circuits and networks. They provide protection from short circuit current flows up to 10,000 amps of current and are UL Listed to UL 98, CSA C22.2, and IEC / EN 60947-4-1 standards for primary short circuit protection.
The GDA-4A series of fuses utilizes the unique protection principle of current limiting; each fuse is provided with an internal arc quenching system that disperses energy and brings problems to a safe and controlled resolution, even with the highest short circuit current potentials.
The fuse’s basic design consists of a silver ribbed core that is filled with a sand-like substance. This sand-like substance is sensitive to pressure, and when a short circuit occurs the electrical current heats this substance up, causing it to expand and push against the core of the fuse. This increases the resistance of the current within the arc, suppressing it and limiting current flow.
The GDA-4A fuses also use a vacuum chamber as one of its key components, which is filled with a material that will release gas when exposed to intense temperatures. This gas helps to extinguish the arc, helping to further reduce the amount of energy that escapes. This vacuum chamber is also designed to help redirect a potential arc in between the fuse core and the incoming and outgoing wires in order to protect both the core and the wires.
Safety features found on the GDA-4A fuses ensure that the fuse will open in the event of significant over currents or short circuits up to 10,000 amps. The fuse core is designed with a temperature sensitive material which will automatically disconnect the circuit when the temperature rises beyond a preset limit.
The GDA-4A series is suitable for a wide range of commercial and industrial applications, as well as marine and offshore requirements. They are capable of carrying currents from 10A up to 10,000A, and are suitable for use in AC and DC operating networks.
The GDA-4A also carries the benefits of a wide range of operating temperatures, from a minimum of -25°C up to +65°C. This temperature range also covers the humid climates that may be present in some operating environments, making them a suitable choice in many industrial installations.
The GDA-4A series is available in several different sizes and design formats. Single effect cartridge fuses with a single link are available for small current operations, while large effect designs can be selected for higher current operations. The use of a single design also allows for the installation of both AC and DC fusing in the same application.
GDA-4A fuses also provide additional safety considerations such as current limiting and arc quenching with their design. This allows the GDA-4A to be used in a variety of industrial and commercial environments, ensuring that the safety of personnel and equipment are maintained.
