The primary function of the GDC-100MA is to protect the circuit or system from current overloads, short circuits, and ground faults. It does this by limiting the current to a maximum level. When the current reaches this predetermined threshold, the fuse opens and disconnects the circuit.

The GDC-100MA is designed for 600Vac and 100A interrupting. It complies with UL 253/256, CSA C22.2-258 & 259, and IEC 60269-4 standards. The fuse also features a UL 4248/CSA 183.1 cold resistance, which decreases significantly with an increase in current. The total I2t rating of this fuse is 17kA2S at 350V.

The applications of the GDC-100MA are varied and include electronic equipment, photovoltaic systems, motors, transformers, battery packs, lighting fixtures, PV inverters, automatic circuit reclosers, interior/exterior lighting, dc circuits, and rotating equipment.

The working principle of the GDC-100MA is based on the Joule heating effect. When current flows through the fuse element, it produces heat. When the current exceeds the predetermined maximum, the heat generated is enough to melt the fuse element. This separates the circuit, thus preventing further increase in current. The fuse is then able to be reset and the circuit will be restored when the fault has been removed.
