GFA-2 application field and working principle

FUSE is a kind of over current protection devices,and GFA-2 is one of typical fuse types.

1. GFA-2 application field
For the thin wire secondary fuses, GFA-2 type is one of the most bang for the buck products. GFA-2 fuses are designed for over current protection applied in low voltage systems Class Ⅰ GFA GBAI series low voltage fuse for 50Hz, rated operating voltage 660V, rated current up to 630A, and the GBET series shunt low voltage fuse for 50 Hz, rated operating voltage 660V, rated current 630A. GFA-2 fuses are widely usd in small-and-medium-power low-voltage distributed networks, electricity switching systems, switchgear containers, combined circuit breakers and circuit breaker intervals, motor starters, switching apparatus and other electrical equipments with AC 50Hz, rated operating voltage 660V.( IEC 60269-2:2003)

2. GFA-2 Working principle
GFA-2 fuse primarily used copper alloy and a small amount of oxides and other metal fillers as raw materials. Due to the metal filler expansion and deformation at high temperature, it forms a resistance and changes the electro-thermal characteristics of the circuit, highlighting the GFA-2 over current protection characteristics. When the circuit current is over current or short circuit,the fuse can be regarded as a resistor, and it will be heated up rapidly to its rated melting temperature. Then, it will melt the fusible alloy inside of the fuse element to cut off the circuit.When the current is back to normal, the circuit can restore power supply, but the fusible alloy would not recover to its original shape, and the heat generated by the fuse will bend the contacts, breaking the electrical contact between the contacts. The user should notice that don\'t break down the fuse element to avoid to cut off the circuit.

3. Application note
Under usual condition, GFA-2 fuse has some clear advantages, such as hight breaking capability, small contact resistance, expanded current range, stable and reliable working performance, etc. However, in the actual application it needs to pay attention to the following aspects:
  1. When the fuse are used, please select an appropriate rated current for it based on the actual current.
  2. Fuse’s productive is very sensitive to temperature or atmosphere, so if the fuse is used in a dusty or a temperature-sensitive place, please select a dust-proof or temperature-resistant type.
  3. Do not too often break down the fuse elements in order to protect the reliability of the fuses.

GFA-2 is a reliable and widely used fuse and has a good performance. Although it is widely used, the user should pay attention to the selection and usage to ensure maximum value of their service.
