A GMT-12A fuse is a specialty fuse used as an overcurrent protection device in medium voltage applications. As with other types of fuses, the GMT-12A is designed to protect electrical circuits against excessive current. The fuse consists of a fuse link with silver-plated copper plates and copper diamond clamps, housed in a blow-out coil. The fuse link is energized from a system voltage, and the coil is energized from a secondary winding. When the current passing though the fuse link increases beyond its rating, the current causes the silver-plated plates to heat up and break the connection between the two conductors. The coil then produces a magnetic field. This magnetic field produces an arc which causes the high-current current to be diverted away from the protected circuit.

GMT-12A fuses are used primarily in medium voltage applications. This type of fuse is typically used in overhead lines, transformers, motors, distribution boxes and switchgear. The GMT-12A fuse is designed to limit and protect against primary overcurrent in the event of an electrical fault such as a short-circuit. The fuse can also provide protection from secondary faults such as arc-faults. The fuse is also capable of operating against change of phase displacement and current magnitude conditions. The fuse is highly reliable and can be reset if necessary.

The working principle of a GMT-12A fuse is relatively simple. When the current passing through the fuse link increases beyond the predetermined rating, the silver-plated plates heat up and break the connection between the two conductors. This results in an arc, which dissipates the excess current. The purpose of the blow-out coil is to direct the force of the arc away from the circuit, thus protecting other components in the circuit.

The GMT-12A fuse is an extremely reliable overcurrent protection device. It has a high interrupting capacity and is capable of operating against change of phase displacement and current magnitude conditions. The fuse is also designed to protect against short-circuits and arc-faults. This type of fuse is commonly used in medium voltage applications, such as overhead lines, transformers, motors, distribution boxes and switchgear. The GMT-12A fuse is designed to provide protection against excessive current, and is one of the most reliable types of fuses available on the market today.
