Gas Sensors
Gas sensors are devices that are used to detect and measure volatile gases and vapours in an environmental space. They are used in many applications such as automotive, household, industrial, medical and security products. Gas sensors are typically based on either electrical or optical principles. Electrical gas sensors work on the principle of measuring changes in electrical properties, such as current, resistance or capacitance, when the sensor comes in contact with the target gas. The most common type of electrical gas sensor is the metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) type, and a great example of this is the GWZ-S2.
GWZ-S2 Application Field and Working Principle
The GWZ-S2 is a low-level methane (CH4) gas sensor module based on the MOS type. It uses its sensor material’s electro-chemical reaction to detect the presence and concentration of CH4. The sensor structure has a built-in temperature compensation circuit and is highly sensitive to CH4, with a rapid response and long lifespan. It is highly resistant to shock and vibration, and its lack of a built-in heater means that it requires no additional power consumption. The GWZ-S2 is suitable for use in a variety of gas sensing applications, such as monitoring the concentration levels of combustible gases (natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas, etc.), indoor air quality, home appliances and safety control, and automotive exhaust gas detection.
The GWZ-S2 is based on the MOS type and works on a simple principle: when CH4 molecules are exposed to the sensor, they react with the material and generate an electric current. The voltage produced is proportional to the recorded CH4 concentration. When no CH4 is present, the electric current is equal to zero. The greater the CH4 concentration, the stronger the electric current and the higher the voltage. The sensor also includes a built-in temperature compensation circuit, which helps to ensure that the readings remain accurate regardless of the temperature. This also increases the device’s accuracy and stability.
The GWZ-S2 is highly sensitive to CH4, has a fast response and recovery time and is reliable and durable with a long lifespan. Its low power consumption makes it an ideal choice for a variety of gas sensing applications. The device is also resistant to shock and vibration and is suitable for use in extreme environmental conditions.
