The HDSP-5557 is a commonly used chip in display module applications, specifically LED character and numeric displays. Its wide range of features, including bright colors and an extensive range of characters, make it a popular choice for many applications.

HDSP-5557 is a single-channel LED display controller chip, the two series 5 digit 8 segment LED character display and 4 digit 7 segment LED numeric display. The digital circuit segment separates the serial data into four parallel data; the resistor and capacitor form a timer to control the oscillator frequency and the transistor forms a logic circuit to couple the serial clock to the oscillator.

The oscillator works in following steps: first, the serial data is separated into four parallel data streams by the digital segregation circuit. Then resistor and capacitor forms a timer to control the oscillator frequency. The high or low level pulse generated by this timer is further combined with the serial in and clock to produce the oscillator frequency. Finally, the output of the oscillator is sent to the internal circuit of the chip to control the whole display module.

In addition, the HDSP-5557 includes a wide range of functions. It can select the required voltage range and establish the communication interface baud rate by setting the corresponding configuration registers. It also comes with two selectable gamma correction values to enhance color performance. Besides, the chip will enter sleep mode and must be repeatedly woken up to maintain display accuracy.
