HDSP-C8A1 is a type of display module which is classified as LED character and numeric. It is a device which is used to present information visually on its display. It is powered by a voltage source and can be integrated with devices such as computers and controllers.

Working Principle: The HDSP-C8A1 display module provides eight 7-segment LED characters which are controlled by outputs from a microcontroller through its 8-bit data bus. Each segment consists of an individual LED, making the characters brighter than the conventional 5x7 dot matrix display mixes represented by 7-segment LEDs.

The display module is driven by a 12-bit shift register and 4-bit latch register. When the microcontroller sends data via its data bus, it will be converted from 8-bits to 12-bits, which will then be shifted into the shift register. The stored data will then be transferred to the latch register, and output to each character corresponding to its latch register. The latch register ensures that the data is stable and does not change when the data is sent from the microcontroller. The contrast and brightness of the display module can be adjusted through two external resistors.
