HDSP-H158 is a type of LED character and numeric displays designed for various industrial applications. It is suit for control panels, industrial and process displays and communicates the functionality of process-related equipment. The device is constructed using ALUMINIUM DOMINO technology and offers a high contrast, wide viewing angle and low power consumption.

HDSP-H158 display modules are built around an array of 14 LEDs in a 7 x 21 matrix with each of the 7 digits comprising of 14 LEDs. The display module is capable of displaying a range of information, from single numbers to maximum 7 characters. The device is operated at a voltage of 5V, with a forward bias current of 15mA required for operation. The device has a luminous intensity of 10,000MCD at 4V.

The display module provides a solution for applications where a full character displays are required, such as for industrial and process control applications. The module can be used to display a range of information such as current, low or high process values, alarms, menus, diagnostic messages and operating parameters. The matrix module is capable of displaying two digit numeric displays and full alphanumeric characters and is suitable for remote device displays. It can be used in applications where an ambient temperature of -20 - +70 degrees Celsius is required.

The display module’s working principle is based on character displays and numerous input lines. It utilizes a series of LED circuits with the data signals entered via four input lines, the control lines A1, A2 and the ground line. These lines can be arranged in variations, depending on the type of input signals and the required display output. The data signals are then used to decide which set of LEDs can be enabled to display the character. The input data is converted into an encoded binary signal which is then used to read the binary values from the display.

Two output lines are provided: one for the anode and one for the cathode. The anode supplies the current to the LEDs, while the cathode provides the return path of the current. The communications between the display module and the system are then established via an interface to the single chip micro-controller. The micro-controller sends the input data to the display module which is then utilized for the selection of the LEDs.

The HDSP-H158 display module is a handy solution for quick communication of information in process and machine control applications. The module is supported by two pins and can be directly mounted on a printed circuit board with 14 contact pins. The device is capable of displaying two digit numeric and full character displays with 10,000MCD luminous intensity and is operable in a temperature range of -20 - +70 degrees Celsius.
