HEDS-5540#A04 encoders are used for a wide variety of positioning and motion sensing applications such as industrial automation, robotics, medical systems, automation control and more.The HEDS-5540#A04 encoder works on an incremental principle, using three parallel tracks of optically encoded windows. It has two types of digital outputs, pulse-width differential output and quadrature output. Both functions are available for single-turn and multi-turn operations. The pulse-width differential output combines the rotation pulse and direction pulse into a single signal. The output is generated as long as rotation is detected, providing instantaneous angular direction information. The quadrature output consists of a rotation pulse signal (A phase) and a reference pulse signal (B phase). Together, these two signals provide the absolute position information.The HEDS-5540#A04 encoder also has an internal counter which counts the number of rotation pulses, thus providing the mult-turn information. The internal counter also has an aging mode which extends the operating life by reducing the power consumption and the number of revolutions sensed in each rotation cycle.Conclusion
