Data can be stored into the register from the input, which should be applied to the shift register\'s DATA INPUT line (DI). This will shift the stored data one bit to the right, thus replacing the oldest bit of data. The shift register works on a first-in-first-out basis, with the oldest piece of data being the first to be output.
The HEF4094BTT-Q100J is used as an output controller, shifting data from the shift register\'s 4 bit parallel output to the serial output line (SO). When data is shifted out of the register it is moved from the left to the right, with the oldest bit being output first. The SO line can be used to supply the output data to other digital devices or devices requiring serial information.
