The working principle of HLE-150-02-SM-DV-PE-BE

The HLE-150-02-SM-DV-PE-BE functions as a multiple contact connection technology for transmitting power, communications, and other signals from one device to another. It is based on various components: headers, central pins, signal contacts, and end launch.

The header component consists of multiple solid pin contacts or pins, usually in a 2.0mm or 2.54mm spacing. The pins may be replaced directly by the required mating components. Depending on the application, they can be soldered or press-fit into the PCB.

The center pin is a multi-part unit which consists of a lower section, vertical section, and upper section. The lower section has holes to receive the header pins. On either side of the vertical section are two terminals. When the two terminals are mated with the signal contacts, power and data is transferred to the upper section of the center pin, acting as a connector.

The signal contacts, also known as the mating contacts, are made up of either insulated wire, coaxial cable or ribbon cable. The contacts are inserted into a HLE’s lower section and are secured by pressure pins, solder, or clamping locks. They are then connected to the upper section of the center pin and secured with retention clips.

The end launch is designed to allow the wires or cables to pass out the back of the header assembly and to protect those wires or cables from the mechanical and thermal effects of surrounding environment. This allows for the flexibility in design and layout of a system.
