The HLMP-6400, also known as the InGaALP filament LED, is a long life, high reliability, low current device used for discrete LED indicating applications. The device consists of a filiform light emitting layer, between two electrodes, bonded inside a glass bulb or tube. The electrode type is a high-current diameter diamagnetic coated anode and a diaphragm cathode.When an alternating voltage is applied to the two electrodes, an electric field is generated between them; the field creates an electrostatic field and acts on the electron-hole pairs of the filament. The electron-hole pairs move in opposite directions, creating an emissive light emitting layer, which is excited by the energy within the electric field. The temperature of the light-emitting layer is kept under control by the heat dissipation of the glass bulb, and the efficiency of the device is kept constant.The HLMP-6400 is typically used in automotive, security and disaster alarm applications, where a single light indicator is required to represent the presence of an alarm condition. It is also used to indicate status in audio/video systems and telecommunication systems. In addition, the device is often used in industrial control systems, to indicate the operational status of process control equipment.The HLMP-6400 is capable of operating over a wide temperature range, from -40°C to +85°C, which makes it suitable for use in a variety of applications. Additionally, the long life of the device, up to 100,000 hrs, ensures a consistently bright and reliable light indicator over long periods of time.In terms of its structure and composition, the HLMP-6400 consists of a filament structure composed of two concentric electrodes, and a thin segment of a luminescent layer that connects the two electrodes. The filament layer is sealed inside a housing, which is usually made of transparent glass or plastic. The light emitted by the device is visible in the visible spectrum; however, in some cases, the device can emit ultraviolet or infrared light.The device’s high-current diameter anode is able to bear higher forward current than traditional filiform light emitting diodes. The anode allows for increased forward current cut off voltage, resulting in a higher efficiency, and higher light output. This makes the device suitable for applications that require one or more large LEDs.The working principle behind the HLMP-6400 is based on an avalanche breakdown effect, which occurs when two regions with different electrostatic potentials are connected. The two regions act as p-n junctions; as the system is biased, current will flow through the device due to the generation of electron-hole pairs, leading to the excitation of the luminescent layer, which produces light. The device operates in two different modes; in the first, the voltage is taken to zero, and then the LED is biased in order to produce the required light. In the second mode, the LED is biased at zero, and the current is driven to the required level, which produces the light.The HLMP-6400 is one of the most reliable and most efficient LEDs available on the market. Its long life and temperature range make it ideal for a variety of applications, including automobiles, security systems, disaster alarms, audio/video systems, telecommunication systems, and industrial control equipment.
