Attenuator – HMC-C584 Application Field and Working Principle
The HMC-C584 is an electronically variable attenuator, which is used for a variety of applications in the radio-frequency (RF) and microwave frequency domains. It is primarily used as an adjustable gain attenuator in radar and radio communication systems to optimize the signal strength and increase the dynamic range of the devices. It also finds use in systems for adjusting the amplitude of a signal or allowing the signal levels to be varied to match other components in a communication circuit.The HMC-C584 employs two pins to control the attenuation of the signals within the range of 6 to 30 dB in 4dB steps. An external DC control voltage applied between the two pins governs the attenuation of the signals. An accuracy of better than +/- 0.5dB can be achieved once the external control voltage is applied.At the microwave frequencies, the HMC-C584 operates within a frequency range from 0.3GHz to 10.0GHz, and at the radio frequencies, it operates from 40MHz to 1000MHz.
