The HMC1034LP6GETR is a clock generator and phase locked loop (PLL) used for generating clock signals and phase-aligning multiple clock signals for data communication and signal processing applications. This device offers precise and reliable frequency synthesis in a wide range of frequencies. The HMC1034LP6GETR enables precise frequency synthesis with an operating frequency range of 10 kHz to 6GHz. This device provides high output frequency resolution over the entire frequency range, with jitter values below 500 fs (15.6 ps). It also offers very low phase noise and integrated ESD protection to ensure reliable operation in harsh environmental conditions.

The HMC1034LP6GETR uses a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) design and is based on the proven architecture of a ring oscillator VCO. The device consists of an inbuilt voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) with an integrated reference crystal oscillator, a programmable divider chain and a frequency synthesizer loop.

The crystal oscillator, which serves as a reference signal, is divided by the programmable dividers to produce a feedback signal. The feedback signal is then compared with an external reference signal, and the difference is used to control the output of the oscillator. The external reference signal can be either a single frequency or a spread spectrum signal.

The frequency synthesizer loop consists of a phase/frequency detector (PFD), a programmable loop filter and a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO). The PFD compares the output frequency of the VCO (which is set by the oscillator control voltage) with the feedback signal. If there is no match, the PFD sends a control signal to the loop filter to adjust the oscillator control voltage. The process continues until the frequency of the oscillator matches the feedback signal.

The HMC1034LP6GETR also includes an integratedloop divider, which can be used to divide the locked frequency. This enables the output of the device to be flexibly adjusted within ±2% of the feedback signal and allows the device to generate output frequencies with a wide range of phases and magnitudes. This is particularly useful in applications where multiple clocks are required to be phase-aligned and synchronized.

The HMC1034LP6GETR can be used in a wide range of applications, such as base-stations, receivers, transmitters, cellular communication and high-speed data processing.
