This non-linear element produces an output signal at the output port which is a combination of the signals at the two input ports.HMC129LC4TR-R5 Application Field and Working PrincipleThe RF HMC129LC4TR-R5 is a double-balanced mixer with an internal LO buffer which can be used in a variety of applications, such as up conversion or down conversion, homodyne and quadrature receivers, sine/cosine converters, and vector modulators/demodulators.This mixer is designed to handle high frequency signals ranging from 1 MHz to 8 GHz with an LO frequency from 300 MHz to 4 GHz. It is capable of providing high conversion gain (17.5 dB typ) and low conversion loss (10.5 dB typ) with an assured third order intermodulation of -20 dBm. This mixer is supplied as a bare die and is appropriate for applications which require fine-tuning of RF characteristics.The device is fabricated using an advanced CMOS process and is built such that it has two differential inputs and one differential output. Its two inputs are designed to receive the signal from the radio frequency circuits, while its output is configured for a signal from the local oscillator.The mixer is also designed to have an enabling function, which allows the user to select how the output is generated. There are two modes of operation for the device, namely the modulating mode and the basic mode. In the modulating mode, the mixer is configured such that the output port produces a signal that is the combined frequency of the two input ports. On the other hand, in the basic mode, the mixer will only provide an output signal equal to the frequency of the LO port.In addition, the HMC129LC4TR-R5 mixer is designed with several features that make it suitable for use in various applications. These features include low power consumption for both the LO buffer and the mixer, a wide dynamic range of conversion gain and loss, and low distortion.
