Working Principle

The HMC264LM3TR features independent I & Q ports and works on a Gilbert Cell architecture. It converts two input signals - a local oscillator (LO) signal and a radio frequency (RF) signal - into two output signals - image rejection (REJ) and an intermediate frequency (IF). This mixer utilizes a Gilbert Cell architecture with three transistors and a diode network. The LO and RF signals are combined to create two outputs, which are then filtered by an external low-pass filter. The diode serves to block DC feedthrough.

The LO signal is applied to one transistor and the RF signal is applied to the opposite transistor. The LO transistor and RF transistor have independent bias signals. A differential input signal is applied to the base of the bipolar NPN transistors, which generates a differential output signal. The differential output signal is then passed through a low pass filter to create a single-ended output signal.
