The HMC285E is a high-performance active mixer from the Analog Devices Helical Mixer portfolio, which offers an impressive combination of wide operating temperature range (-55 to +105 °C), high dynamic range, and low conversion loss (14 dB typ) for the frequency range of 30MHz to 2.3GHz. It is a double balanced mixer, incorporating a 2 Stage Driver and 2 Stage LO Buffer, enabling the user to take advantage of a well-matched loop that helps optimize the performance of the circuit.
The HMC285E is widely used in many fields. It is often found in wireless communication systems such as Ka-Band receivers, satellite radio receivers and other test and measurement applications. It has a wide dynamic range of 35dB of IP3, noise figure of 4dB and excellent linearity, meaning it is well-suited for use in GSM or CDMA receivers.
The working principle of the HMC285E is quite complex. A crystal is used as a local oscillator to produce a signal that is fed to the mixer.
