A high-power semiconductor element (HPS-EE) is an electronic device made of semiconductor materials that electrically separates a high-power current at a given voltage and temperature. It generally consists of two terminals that are connected in series; one is the positive terminal, and the other is the negative terminal. HPS-EEs are widely used in different applications ranging from high-power equipment to industrial and automotive electronics. HPS-EES are also increasingly used as an alternative to traditional mechanical relays or breakers.

Fuseholders are designed to securely and safely hold and mount electrical and electronic fuses, and act as connectors between two wires. Fuseholders provide a safe and efficient connection between the fuse and the wire for which the fuse is to protect from an over-current condition. Fuseholders typically utilize printed circuit boards (PCBs) to connect the fuse with two poles, one for the power supply and the other for the load. Fuseholders can be further classified into plated, non-plated, solderless, or crimp-on, depending on how the connections are made.

HPS-EEs can be used in fuseholders to provide power protection and control. The HPS-EEs attach directly to the fuse wires where they absorb and store the current from the fuse wire until the current drops below the cutoff point. HPS-EEs in fuseholders can hold and mount up to several amperes of continuous current and will hold several kilowatts of surge current. Advantages of using HPS-EES in fuseholders include improved efficiency, improved safety, and reduced downtime.

The working principle of HPS-EEs in fuseholders involves two key processes. The first process involves clamping the current on the fuse wire by the HPS-EE, the second process involves the HPS–EE’s control mechanism. When the maximum current is reached the control mechanism will initiate current clamping. This will reduce or limit the current flow and thereby protecting the circuit.

HPS-EEs are used for various applications such as power surge protection, circuit overload protection, high-power equipment control, and industrial and automotive electronics. HPS-EEs can be used in fuseholders to provide protection to circuits from over-current conditions. They are also used to reduce downtime and to improve efficiency in power equipment. Fuseholders are the most reliable and safe way to hold and mount fuses and HPS-EEs.
