HVE-3/4 high voltage fuses, also known as current-limiting fuses or Kynar time-delay fuses, are specialty fuses designed to protect high-voltage equipment and circuits. These fuses are used in applications where overcurrent protection is required, such as power distribution systems, busways, panelboards, and motor controllers. The HVE-3/4 fuses are available in a variety of sizes and ratings suitable for a variety of applications.

The primary purpose of high voltage fuses is to protect circuits and equipment from over-current and excessive temperatures. The fuse opens the circuit when the current exceeds the fuse\'s rating, preventing further damage to the system. The HVE-3/4 high-voltage fuse is a dual-element fuse, also referred to as a current-limiting fuse. This type of fuse is designed to open quickly when the current reaches a maximum, and then slowly open the remainder of the way to provide a sufficient amount of time for other over-current devices to actuate and de-energize the circuit. This dual-element fuse has an instantaneous element and a time-delay element.

The instantaneous element provides fast reaction time and is capable of rapidly interrupting over-currents up to its ampere (A) rating. The time-delay element, which is composed of a Kynar-coated strip, slowly melts away and opens the circuit at a predetermined current level, usually twice the rated interrupted current of the fuse.

The instantaneous element of the HVE-3/4 high-voltage fuse is designed to open in less than five cycles when the current exceeds its rating, while the time-delay element provides additional protection by reducing the let-through energy and limiting the amount of damage caused by the over-current.

The HVE-3/4 high-voltage fuse is UL and CSA listed and is available in a variety of sizes and ratings suitable for many applications. Typical applications include high- danger circuits requiring high-current protection, such as busways, motor controllers, fire pumps, generators, and other power systems. The fuses are also suitable for non-critical but sensitive applications, such as distribution systems and instrumentation circuitry.
