The ICE5QR1070AZXKLA1 is a member of the ICE family of high-performance current mode off-line switchers from Infineon Technologies. It is a PMIC – AC/DC Converters and Offline Switchers, specifically designed for green switch mode power supplies. It is designed to provide total system control and a cost-effective solution for high power AC to DC converter applications while offering high efficiency and reliable operation.
The ICE5QR1070AZXKLA1 is suitable for high power AC to DC applications such as LCD TV, LED TV, microwave oven, air-conditioner, air purifier and various Electronic & Instrumentation consumer products. It contains several features that provide added functionality above and beyond just energy conversion, such as:
- Position control - provides accurate AC power factor compensation and output voltage feedback control.
- Accurate detection of AC input voltage, over-voltage and over-current protection for the output stores, with adjustable over-voltage thresholds.
- Embedded thermal protection ensures system safety by detecting the maximum junction temperature of the IC.
- Over-current protection (OCP) senses the output current of the bridge device, increasing the duty cycle of the switch until a predefined current threshold (OCP) is detected, commanding the switch to turn off.
- Soft start prevents inrush current at power-on, adjustable from 1ms to 20ms.
- Minimal audible noise for fan-less systems.
- High efficiency at light loads and under high line conditions.
The ICE5QR1070AZXKLA1 is based on an advanced neural-network based control architecture. This architecture includes an on-chip charge pump, which enables the scalar control of output voltage using an external feedback network. It works by continually measuring the output voltage and adjusting the switching duty cycle to maintain the output voltage level. The device also features an integrated regulator loop, providing cycle-by-cycle current-sense limit, over-voltage protection and cycle-by-cycle current limit.
The main components of the architecture include a voltage-mode PWM control block, an error amplifier, a continuous mode oscillator, a current-sense amplifier and a current limit circuit. The voltage-mode PWM control block is responsible for generating the switching waveform based on the feedback voltage. The error amplifier is used to compare the feedback voltage to the reference voltage and generate an error for the PWM controller to modulate the output voltage. The continuous mode oscillator generates a frequency-modulated waveform for controlling the switching frequency. The current-sense amplifier monitors the current flowing through the switch and the current limit circuit limits the current to avoid damage to the switch.
The ICE5QR1070AZXKLA1 also includes an integrated differential hall effect current sensing circuit which enables the system to accurately measure the output current for closed loop control and over-current protection.
