ICS507M-01ILFT is a low power, fully integrated, Clock/Timing - Clock Generators, PLLs, Frequency Synthesizers family. It includes a power-on reset (POR) circuit, a low-power mode, an oscillator, a divider, a low-noise amplifier (LNA), a low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) receiver, an analog to digital converter (ADC), a DLL/PLL combination, an integrated SLLS output, as well as a state-of-the-art temperature compensation circuit. The ICS507M-01ILFT offers high performance clock and frequency synthesizers applications such as those used in cellular, WiFi and Bluetooth radio communication, satellite radio and Digital TV products. It transmits multiple carriers that are phase and frequency synchronized. The frequency synthesizer offers optimal filtering and jitter performance to enable low noise and clean output signals. The ICS507M-01ILFT device is designed to operate with a single 3.3V supply, and is available in standard CMOS and TSMC process technologies.
The working principle of ICS507M-01ILFT is based on the concept of a phase locked loop or PLL. The PLL combines an oscillator, a phase detector, a filter, and a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO). The PLL takes two signals, the reference signal and the feedback signal and compares their frequency and phase. The phase detector compares the reference signal phase to the feedback signal phase, and produces an error signal. This error signal is used to control the VCO to bring the phase of the two signals into phase and frequency synchronization which is the phase/frequency locking of the two signals.
The ICS507M-01ILFT PLL also incorporates a Dual mode design that allows both free running and synchronized operation. This allows the output signal to be synchronized with a periodic reference signal or to run freely, independently of an external reference signal. Additionally, ICS507M-01ILFT supports Pre-Divide and Post-Divide functions. The Pre-Divide allows the user to divide the reference frequency prior to phase comparison. The Post-Divide allows the user to divide the VCO output frequency to the desired output frequency.
The ICS507M-01ILFT also contains a special circuitry to help maintain high stability, low noise levels and smooth output signal. This special circuit, called a Zero Crossing Detector (ZCD), is designed to indicate when the phase transition of the oscillator signal occurs. By making use of this circuit, the oscillator can operate with fewer jitter at all temperature ranges.
The Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) of ICS507M-01ILFT is designed to provide the PLL with more accurate frequency information. The ADC allows the user to measure the frequency of the feedback signal accurately and with less noise. This allows the error signal generated by the phase detector to be more accurate, which results in better PLL performance and greater stability.
