Inductors, also known as coils, reactors, and interference filters, are one of the three major electronic components. They are composed of conductive coils wound in a magnetic circuit, and are widely used in various types of electronic products to store and release energy, filter signals, eliminate interference, etc. As one of its small-sized inductor products, IMS05STR18K has the advantages of wide application range, high reliability, and good electrical performance.
IMS05STR18K is a gapped iron-based ferrite core inductors developed by TRACO Power for professional wireless communication applications, such as mobile phones, wireless LANs, and access nodes. It is mainly used in wireless power charging applications. The product utilizes advanced winding technology, sophisticated encapsulating techniques, and tight magnetic properties.
The specification of IMS05STR18K consists in:
- Rated current: 0.3-1.5A;
- Inductance: 0.1-4.7uH;
- DC resistance: 0.9-540mΩ;
- Max. Allowable loaded voltage: 2.8V;
- Operating temperature range: -20℃~+85℃;
- Heat resistance: 260°C.
The product is constructed with excellent gapped ferrite material and features high electricity and current constants, good temperature”s coefficients and low sensitivities to DC. It is ultra-small in size, with a maximum height of 0.74mm, which enables its use in especially small-size applications. The application of IMS05STR18K includes switch mode power supply, voltage/current regulation, and a wide range of DC/DC conversion applications.
IMS05STR18K works on the basic principle of electromagnetic induction, which consists of three components: a conductive wire loop (also known as a coil), a magnetic field and an alternating current supply. When electrical current passes through a coil, it induces a magnetic field around the coil. The electromagnetic induction phenomenon occurs when the alternating current of the power supply changes direction and the coil becomes exposed to a changing magnetic field.
As the magnetic field changes, an electrical current is induced into the coil. This induced current, in turn, creates a magnetic field opposed to the magnetic field of the original current, so that an opposing force is created. This opposing force causes the electric current to slow down. This phenomenon is known as self-induction.
Thus, IMS05STR18K functions as an electrical component that can store electrical energy, filter signals or reduce interference. It has multiple application fields in multiple electronic products. It is important to choose a high-quality product for these application fields in order to have a highly effective component.
