IRSM836-035MB belongs to a type of power management integrated circuit (PMIC) and is a motor driver, controller and switch. In this article, we will discuss the application and working principle of this particular integrated circuit. The IRSM836-035MB is a Monolithic MOSFET driver with onboard anti-parallel clamp diodes that combine motor control and current-limiting circuitries with protection features. It is a member of the IRAMS836 family, comprising of single and dual half bridge motor driver ICs. This particular device is a dual half bridge driver IC with integrated MOSFETs and built-in anti-parallel diodes for motor control and current-limiting circuitries. It is designed to be used in various motor applications including DC motors, step motors, servo motors, 3-phase brushless motors and brushless fan motors.The key features of the IRSM836-035MB are its wide power supply range of 4.5V to 18V and extremely low load-dependent quiescent current of only 0.75μA. It also offers high power Outputs/DMOS Gate voltage of 5V, under-voltage protection, thermal shutdown, and soft-start circuitry. It also provides adjustable current-limit protection and accurate output current control. It has a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. The IRAMS836 family supports various motor control modes, including forward and reverse motion, full step, half step, and microstepping. Furthermore, the IRSM836-035MB features a number of pins that enable easier connections and operation, such as directions inputs (DIR1/DIR2) for setting motor direction, enable/disable inputs (EN), PWM control inputs (PW1/PW2) for controlling power Outputs/MOS Gate voltages, and sleep control inputs (SLP) for sleep mode. The worked principles of the IRSM836-035MB is quite simple. The IC has two power outputs/MOS gate voltages (VOUT_A, VOUT_B) with an output voltage that ranges from 0V to 5V. The MOS gate voltages are controlled by two PWM inputs (PW1,PW2). When the enable pin (EN) is high, the IC switches the MOS Gate voltages according to the settings on the direction pins (DIR1,DIR2). This allows the control of the motor in both forward and reverse directions. With an addition of a low-voltage circuit and a reverse bias protection circuit, it enables much safer operation and protection from overcurrent. In conclusion, the IRSM836-035MB is a dual half bridge driver IC with integrated MOSFETs and built-in anti-parallel diodes for motor control and current-limiting circuitries.
